FRRO Visa Registration in India

Foreign nationals visiting India on long-term visas (over 180 days) are required to register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) within 14 days of arrival, as per the Indian government’s FRRO registration mandate. However, certain rules apply based on visa type and nationality:

General Guidelines:

  1. Mandatory Registration

    • Visitors holding Medical, Student, Research, Employment, Project, or Missionary visas must register within 14 days of arrival at the FRRO/FRO that has jurisdiction over their place of stay.

    • Business Visa holders must register only if their total stay in India exceeds 180 days in a calendar year.

  2. Exemptions

    • Foreign nationals (other than those mentioned above) entering India on long-term visas are exempt from registration if their stay does not exceed 180 days. If they extend their stay beyond 180 days, registration is required within 180 days of arrival.

    • Children under the age of 12 are exempt from all registration requirements.

Special Provisions for Pakistani Nationals:

  • Pakistani nationals must register within 24 hours of arrival, except in cases where they hold an EPR (Exemption from Police Reporting) visa.

  • For Medical Visa holders, registration is required within 7 days of arrival.

Short-Term Visits:

  • Foreign nationals departing within 14 days of arrival on their first visit under a specific visa do not need to register.

Note: It’s essential to follow the FRRO/FRO guidelines and ensure compliance to avoid penalties.
